We have gone above and beyond with our food service program with our Center being a member of Team Nutrition! In 1995, the USDA established Team Nutrition, a nationwide integrated program designed to help implement the School Meals Initiative for Healthy Children. We feel that Team Nutrition provides the Center with training and technical assistance regarding meal planning, best practices and professional resources that aid in creating a well-balanced and healthy nutrition and food service program. Our menus follow a four week rotation pattern, but are slightly updated on a regular basis to include seasonal foods as well cultural foods. We follow Team Nutrition’s goal to encourage children to:
~ Eat a variety of foods
~ Eat more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains
~ Eat lower fat foods more often
~ Be physically active
The Center serves breakfast to children who are at the Center before 8:00 a.m. A snack is served mid-morning and lunch is served at approximately 11:30 a.m. An afternoon snack is also served. A weekly menu is always posted in the Jungle Hut and an individual copy will be given upon request.
If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday by bringing in a snack for your child’s habitat, please see your child’s lead educator to verify any food allergies and number of children in his/her habitat. Snacks cannot be homemade and must be bought at a store or restaurant approved and inspected by the USDA or local health department.
The Center complies with all food ordinances, inspections and state recommended guidelines regarding children’s nutrition. Our food service program is overseen by a cook with a Serv Safe certificate.
Little Jungle Learning Center, will assure that a child with special dietary needs is provided with snacks and meals in accordance with the child’s needs and with the instructions of the child’s parent or licensed physician. These accommodations will only be made if the dietary need is of religious or medical necessity and appropriate documentation is provided to the Center.
